Today, KOEI TECMO Europe and developer Kou Shibusawa unleashed the second trailer for their highly anticipated historical simulation, ROMANCE OF THE THREE KINGDOMS 8 REMAKE. The game is now available to digitally pre-order before it releases 24th October 2024 on Nintendo Switch™, PlayStation®5, PlayStation®4, and Windows PC via Steam®.
ROMANCE OF THE THREE KINGDOMS 8 REMAKE is based on ROMANCE OF THE THREE KINGDOMS VIII with Power Up Kit, complete with both the “All Officers Play” and “All Periods Scenarios” features, as well as a host of new content to deliver the most complete Romance of the Three Kingdoms experience to date.
In ROMANCE OF THE THREE KINGDOMS 8 REMAKE, players will take on the role of an officer and be able to influence their life and the historical events unfolding around them. Some of the decisions players will be able to make for their characters will affect key aspects of their officer’s life, such as marriage or raising a child. Players will be able to take on “Spouses” of the opposite gender by fulfilling certain conditions; either by deepening their relationship with an officer, or by completing events in “Tales”. Players can also have romances that don’t exist in history or marry fictional officers who appear in events. In this case, the “Spouses” will later appear in the game as regular officers of the same force as the players. By forming a synergetic bond with “Spouses”, players will gain various benefits such as receiving support in “Missions” and “Training”, as well as “Link” and “Assistance”.
As players interact with their spouses, a child may be born, triggering events related to “Raising a Child”. The choices made by players during these events will influence the skills of the child, who can sometimes inherit traits. When the child reaches the age of 16, they will join the forces to which the player belong. If the players’ character dies, or when the child reaches adulthood, users can change the protagonist to the child to continue playing.
Alongside the wide range of improvements in ROMANCE OF THE THREE KINGDOMS 8 REMAKE, players will discover a new mechanic called “Wisdom”, which will be necessary to learn various tactics, skills and allow officers to level up. “Wisdom” can not only be obtained by completing missions or in battle, but also by deepening relationships between officers, making interactions between them more crucial than ever. The wisdom players gain will depend on the tactics and skills of the officer they interact with, adding a strategic dimension to the interactions. Players will have to carefully choose which officers they want to build relationships with, depending on the tactics and skills they want to acquire.
Players will also be able to gain experience in various abilities, such as strength and intelligence, and develop them further by “Training”. When an allied officer in the city provides “Assistance”, the amount of experience gained by players will be considerably increased; even if an officer’s initial abilities are average, players can improve their characters and become high-ranking officers with dedicated effort and being supported by excellent companions.
Finally, in addition to the return of the “Duels” features, players will discover another new feature specific to ROMANCE OF THE THREE KINGDOMS 8 REMAKE; the “Debate” system. The rules for these features will also evolve, becoming more strategic as officers compete against each other based on the number of cards in their hands. While “Duels” will be able to change the course of the battle, “Debates” will be able to change the situation during “Parliaments”. Faced with opponents with similar abilities, each move can be a tense, decisive exchange that will bring victory, or defeat.
